Latest NewsRadiant Systems, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Team Up to Sprint for Cancer April 165K,10K and Fun Run through Dunwoody Benefit Pediatric Cancer Research ATLANTA (March 8, 2011)—Usher in spring, shape up for summer and support pediatric cancer research at the ninth annual Radiant Systems Sprint for Cancer 5K,10K and Fun Run road race, a qualifier for the Peachtree Road Race. The race begins 8 a.m. Saturday, April 16, in the Perimeter Place Shopping Center in Dunwoody, and more than 1,250 runners and walkers are expected to participate. All proceeds benefit cancer patients at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. “With so many Atlanta 5K and 10K races scheduled in the Fall, Sprint for Cancer offers a unique opportunity for race participants, fans and volunteers to kick-start the active season in a fun and positive way,” said Shelton Stevens, who manages sports-related fundraising for the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Foundation. “We are grateful to Radiant Systems for not only creating a great event, but also for passionately pursuing its mission to support cancer patients and their families. Sprint for Cancer launched in 2003 when a small group of Radiant Systems employees, each of whom had been impacted by cancer, harnessed their collective desire to support cancer patients and research. The first race took place in the parking lot of the company’s headquarters and since then has seen tremendous growth in dollars raised and number of participants. The event has now become a multi-city race—with courses in Atlanta, Dallas/Fort Worth, Memphis and Orange County, Calif.—and has raised more than $650,000 for cancer research. “This event is a great example of the energy and giving attitude of our people, and reflects who we are as a company,” said Chris Lybeer, a cancer survivor and one of the founders of Sprint for Cancer. “Radiant employees host raffles, garage sales, and even a barbeque and concert lunch in support of this event throughout the year, and that spirited camaraderie culminates on race day. I couldn’t be more excited about the continued growth, recognition and success of the race.” Individual registration for the 5K or 10K is $20 through March 15 and $25 starting March 16. Registration is $15 for children wishing to participate in the Fun Run, which includes a race T-shirt and finisher’s ribbon. Phantom runners who are unable to participate but still wish to support the cause are welcome. Sprint for Cancer also offers discounted registration fees for groups of ten or more— a great opportunity for corporate wellness initiatives, schools, clubs and other local groups.
